Emily Hahn Mcniven

I was born and raised in Granum,Alberta and graduated High School at F.P. Walsh in Fort Macleod. With 6 siblings and no TV we had to entertain ourselves. At six years of age my mom had me following patterns drawn on paperwith the old Singer tredle sewing machine. By 12 I had sewn my first blouse. Having younger brothers we would help entertain them by drawing farm animals on paper thatthey cloured and cut out, then with popsicle sticks and yarn we would make pastures for them to play with their paper animals. If I wasnt reading I would make clothes for my paper dolls, I didnt have a ‘Barbie’ at that time. As a teenager I learned to knit, crochet and embroider amongst the other things my Dad taught me including piano. In high school I played the saxophone in band. My Dad and I would wiled away many an hour playing old time music, me on the sax and Dad on the guitar, banjo or mandolin. I moved to the Vulcan County in 1991. This is where I picked up painting starting with water colour but found I preferred acrylic. Since I have retired I have more time to do my hobbies, which are many and I am grateful for the Art Centre. I love the courses i have been able to partake in and it has helped me to meet more wonderful people. I look forward to coming here to share some of my hobbies as well as every one else’s special talents.
